When trying to work out which flooring to install where, there’s such a big choice available that it could be a difficult decision to make. This guide of suitable soft flooring products should give you a rough idea of what works best and where and can make the decisions a little bit easier for you.
Office and Classroom Flooring
When choosing flooring for an office space or classroom, you would need something hardwearing to deal with castor wheels and heavy foot but also ideally comfortable underfoot and with good noise dampening qualities. That’s why the go to choose for offices and classroom up and down the UK is the installation of carpet tiles.
There’s a massive selection of carpet tiles available from many manufacturers but we like to use the Paragon Carpet Tiles ranges. Whether you’re looking for something simple like their Workspace Loop range or adding some serious style with their Inspiration Collection, you can find something perfect for your workspace!

Breakout Area Flooring
What about the office breakout areas or the school hangout rooms? For these areas you will want something relatively waterproof and easy to clean but these can also be great areas to brighten things up a bit and add some extra colour and vibrancy.
Maybe a hardwearing LVT product could be the way to go, where you could mix and match the colours and install it in a herringbone pattern to really create something unique. Why not take a look at Duraflor Espressa range for a loose lay option?

Shop and Restaurant Flooring
For shops and restaurants, the choice of style is going to be a big deciding factor in what you choose to install. You will obviously want to choose something that matches the style of the rest of the premises but also need something hardwearing and easy to clean.
If you wanted a high end feeling you could choose to have an engineered wood installed such a Havwood Fendi Prime. Although this wouldn’t be the cheapest option to install, it would definitely make you stand out from the crowd and add a real wow factor!
Another option for a wood or stone effect would be to install and LVT product, such as Duraflor Axis range, which can be a bit more cost effective and easier to maintain.

Kitchen and Toilet Flooring
When choosing a suitable flooring for use in a workplace kitchen or toilet the main priority will be something that is easy to keep hygienically clean but also with a suitable slip resistance, as these are the area’s most likely to be wet or have spillages.
We would recommend installing a vinyl safety flooring in these areas with a slip resistance of at least R10, such as Altro Walkway. If possible, you may also want to consider installing it coved up the wall or the installation of a rubber skirting. This will make the task of keeping it clean all the easier, whilst also preventing any water from getting underneath the new flooring.

Commercial Kitchen Flooring
The top priority for specifying flooring for a commercial kitchen or bar enviroment, where oil and spillages are highly likely, is to prevent slips and keeping things hygienic. This usually means choosing a vinyl safety flooring with a high slip resistance and would also recommend installing it coved up the wall to help keep things nice and clean!
A product such as Altro Stronghold 30 would be the ideal choice, as it provides R12 slip resistance (which is what you’ll need) plus it’s extra thick, which provides some additional comfort underfoot, which is a great benefit if you’re standing up all day!
Community Hall Flooring
When specifying a commercial flooring product for a community hall, you would be expecting to install something that can put up with all the variety of activities that would happen within. This would mean you will want something that is both hardwearing and easy to clean but also visually pleasing otherwise it may end up looking a bit more like a warehouse!
One good choice would be to go for vinyl safety flooring, such as Altro Wood, which gives a photo realistic wood effect look but with a decent level of slip resistance and also being easy to keep clean.
Another good choice could be a quality LVT product, such as the Duraflor Momenta range. They also offer photo realistic wood and stone effects and are easy to keep clean but come as heavy-duty tiles rather than a single sheet.
Sports Hall Flooring
When installing flooring in a sports hall or similar, where there will be lots of running around and a higher possibility of someone falling over, you’re definitely going to want to install a flooring that’s gives a bit of bounce and provides a softer landing. You’ll also need something that gives a bit of grip to save it turning into an ice rink!
A great choice would be a vinyl flooring such as Polyflor Sport 67. This has all the usual benefits of a quality vinyl safety flooring but comes with some extra foam padding, which gives it its shock absorbing qualities.
